saying of the week

"No pessimist ever discovered the secret of the stars, or sailed to an uncharted land, or opened a new doorway to the human spirit." Helen Keller

new testimonials

"The first week I started the regime the change was amazing. My energy returned, my skin glowed, the aches and pains and heat (inflammation) in my joints went away (almost all), the gastric reflux stopped. People commented on the change in me. I was amazed at how different and positive I felt. So thank you so much." Susie, Plymouth

"I can't speak highly enough of that man, he changed my life". Doreen, Worcester

Adrenals

Of all the endocrine glands which include the pituitary, thyroid, pancreas, adrenals, ovaries and testis, the adrenal glands are perhaps the most pivotal in many conditions of stress-related problems, yet the least regarded in conventional medicine.
The reason could be the complexity of their function as they tend to produce several hormones with diverse affects throughout the body and, the absence of a pharmaceutical drug that can influence them.

The adrenals sit above the kidneys and have two portions: the cortex and the medulla. The function of their diverse hormones illustrates how important these glands are in the body's physiology.

1. Adrenaline and noradrenalin - "flight and fright mechanism".
2. Aldosterone - sodium/potassium balance and fluid retention/loss.
3. Cortisol - stress management and sugar balance.
4. Steroids - anti-inflammatory in infections and autoimmune problems.
5. Androgens and Estrogens - sex hormones which take over after the menopause when the ovaries have powered down.

The adrenals also play a significant role in the causation of many conditions from the feeling of wellbeing during pregnancy, the "baby blues" after birth to the tiredness and exhaustion associated with chronic fatigue syndrome.

Not only are the adrenals susceptible to both physical and emotional stress, they are affected by other factors including food allergy/intolerance, pathogenic organisms (bacteria, viruses, fungus/Candida and parasites), toxins such as metals (arsenic, cadmium, lead, mercury etc), chemicals (pesticides, herbicides, preservatives etc), radiation (DECT phones, mobiles and masts, air travel etc), drugs (NSAIDs, steroids etc), and not forgetting malabsorption of essential nutrients such as amino acids, vitamins, minerals and especially fatty acids of EPA and DHA.

Treatment of an exhausted adrenal gland is rest and relaxation, both physical and emotional together with a good supply of all nutritional factors essential for healing and regeneration.
